A Legacy of Standards That Stand the Test of Time

ā€œI’ve had outside clients that followed me — people not even from this area,ā€ says Wayne Honeycutt Jr., owner of The Shop in Woodlawn. ā€œThe standard has remained the same all these years. That’s why I’ve never had problems at my barbershop. Even in different generations, people protect the barbershop because they know what it stands for.ā€

Clients — both longtime and new — understand The Woodlawn Barbershop Standard before they ever sit in the chair. It’s about respect, honesty, and professionalism. The Shop isn’t just where people come for a haircut — it’s a place where reputation and trust are protected by everyone who steps through the door.

Teamwork in The Shop Culture

When asked about teamwork, Wayne doesn’t hesitate:

> ā€œIt’s everything,ā€ he says. ā€œA person ought to get here early and leave late. That’s motivation. I shouldn’t have to make anyone want to work — that comes from pride in your craft.ā€

Inside The Shop, teamwork isn’t just about cutting hair — it’s about making sure everyone eats.

> ā€œOn a slow day, if only three people walk in, one barber shouldn’t take all three cuts. You pass one down. Let another guy eat. We’re in this together. If the bathroom’s dirty, clean it. If hair’s on the floor, sweep it. Because when a customer walks in, they don’t separate one barber from another. They see The Shop as one business — and that’s how it should be.ā€

That simple philosophy — respect, pride, and shared responsibility — is what keeps The Shop running strong.

The Discipline of Time and Consistency

For Wayne, punctuality is more than good manners — it’s a professional mindset.

> ā€œBarbers are entrepreneurs. That’s both an advantage and a disadvantage,ā€ he explains. ā€œWe love the freedom, but sometimes that freedom leads to a lack of discipline. Over the years, I’ve been blessed with barbers who show up on time because they take their work seriously.ā€

He’s learned that the culture inside the shop sets the tone.

> ā€œIf one good barber shows up early and handles his business, everyone else follows. Nobody wants to see their client sitting in another chair because they were late. That’s how you build an environment of consistency.ā€

Even after the pandemic changed how barbershops operated, Wayne continues to adapt while keeping his foundation strong:

> ā€œThese days, I work with grown men who understand their responsibilities. I don’t have to tell them to show up — their goals make them get up.ā€

A Standard That Speaks for Itself

For over two decades, The Shop Bham has built its name on discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.

From Woodlawn to clients who travel from miles away, Wayne’s leadership and culture have created something bigger than a business — a brotherhood of barbers who believe in excellence, respect, and community.

Because at The Shop, the standard doesn’t just live on the walls — it lives in the people who uphold it every day.
