šŸ’ˆ The Shop Bham: The Standard, The Culture, and the Community

Updated: Oct 19

A Legacy Built on Consistency

ā€œI’ve had clients follow me from outside the city, even from other states,ā€ says Wayne Honeycutt Jr., founder and owner of The Shop Bham. ā€œThe standard has never changed. That’s why I’ve never had problems in my barbershop. Even through different generations, people protect the shop — because they know what we stand for.ā€

From the very beginning, The Shop Bham has been built on respect, honesty, and professionalism. New clients quickly learn what regulars already know — the Woodlawn barbershop standard is set high, and everyone who walks in the door feels it.

Teamwork: The Heart of The Shop

When Wayne talks about teamwork, he lights up.

> ā€œIt’s everything,ā€ he says. ā€œWhen it comes down to this work, a person should get here early and leave late. You shouldn’t have to be motivated — the passion should already be there.ā€

At The Shop, teamwork isn’t just a rule; it’s a lifestyle. Everyone looks out for each other.

> ā€œIf it’s a slow day, and one barber hasn’t had a client, and a walk-in comes through the door — the next barber should pass that cut along. Let the other guy eat. We’re in this together.ā€

He continues, ā€œIf you’re not cutting, sweep up behind someone else. If the bathroom needs cleaning, take care of it. Because when a customer walks in, they don’t separate one barber from another — they see one business. Teamwork keeps that standard alive.ā€

Discipline and Punctuality

For Wayne, success starts with showing up.

> ā€œBarbering is entrepreneurship,ā€ he explains. ā€œThat’s both the blessing and the challenge. Sometimes people want the freedom but not the discipline. Over the years, I’ve hired barbers who take their craft seriously — they show up on time because they want to win.ā€

He believes one strong example can change the entire culture.

> ā€œIf one barber shows up early every day, cutting hair while the others are still walking in, eventually everyone adjusts. Nobody wants their clients sitting in another chair because they were late. That’s how you build consistency.ā€

Even after the pandemic, Wayne still expects professionalism. ā€œThe guys working with me now are grown men. Their responsibilities get them up in the morning. That’s the kind of team we have.ā€

Opportunity and Growth

Wayne has created a system that helps new barbers succeed — no matter their starting point.

> ā€œIf a new barber already has a clientele, I’ll start them on a booth. But if they’re just coming out of school, I’ll work with them on commission until they build up. Once I see they can sustain themselves, we move to booth rental. My goal is to help them grow, not struggle.ā€

That mentorship-first mindset is what makes The Shop Bham stand out across Birmingham.

Looking Ahead

After decades in the industry, Wayne still shows up with the same energy and passion.

> ā€œI’ve been doing this all my life. My exit plan has always been right in front of me — I just keep working. In the next couple of years, I want to see The Shop back in full operation — all chairs filled, energy high, and the community thriving again.ā€

With three children — all in or heading to college — Wayne says work isn’t slowing down anytime soon. ā€œThat’s my motivation. I’ve got purpose behind every cut.ā€

The Shop’s Mission: Help Others Win

> ā€œEvery day when I wake up, I ask the Creator to send me somebody I can help,ā€ Wayne says. ā€œThat’s what The Shop is built on — being a blessing. We’ve been a pillar in this community for years. People depend on us — financially, mentally, and spiritually. We’ve helped kids find work, supported families, and created a place where people feel safe.ā€

When things get tough, Wayne leans on that purpose. ā€œIf I’m giving out good energy and helping others, I know The Shop will always be taken care of.ā€

---

Closing Words from The Shop Bham

> ā€œThank you for taking the time to learn about who we are,ā€ says Wayne. ā€œWe’re always looking for motivated barbers and stylists who want to grow in a team environment. Our goal is simple — to keep raising the standard and build a space where everyone wins.ā€

At The Shop Bham, every cut builds confidence, every barber builds legacy, and every day strengthens the community.
